In accordance with the school’s mission, the curriculum infuses a leadership component at all grade levels. Key components of leadership education are effectively blended into the core curriculum and include topics such as effective communication, conflict resolution, personal responsibility, problem solving, data use and interpretation, goal-setting, interpersonal skills and other character education pieces.

The leadership component builds on critical elements of character and leadership through consistent reinforcement. Every school day begins with a positive and simple character building activity that sets the tone for the entire day. Leadership principles are incorporated into every-day classroom instruction and activities. Implementation of the leadership curriculum requires little time and serves to augment the core curriculum components by creating an environment most conducive to learning. These powerful and concise lessons effectively instill and reinforce important principles that enhance character and decrease discipline problems.

Through this leadership component students learn to recognize and display kindness, courage, self-control, forgiveness, respect, diligence, loyalty, honesty and confidence. Based on research and analysis of best practices, there are several tangible outcomes that result from the implementation of a leadership-based program. Among them:

                                        • Reduced incidence of tardiness and absences
                                        • Decreased socially negative behaviors such as bullying
                                        • Increased academic performance
                                        • Higher expectations of self and others
